Insurance seems to be the only contract we don't read before agreeing to it

Task a day insurance: We need the hard copy of our insurance contracts. Why is it that the question "Am I covered?" is part of the insurance experience. If we're paying premiums, if we've agreed to a plan for a year, shouldn't we know whether we're covered? The answer is yes and no.

Yes, our guts tell us that agreeing to pay for coverage that we don't know the details of is bad consumerism. What else would we buy this way? We worry more about the warranties a new television has than the provisions of our insurance coverage. But the system is not well designed to let us know.

Getting a hard copy of your insurance contract is no easy task. Every individual should start asking for this document and no watered down websites please...the whole document. Governmental reform should start with mandatory mailing of hard copies of different insurance coverages that are being marketed to individuals. Whether an individual thinks he will read it or thinks he will understand it, it's ridiculous that we enter into this important business relationship without ever seeing the contract.
