In discussing the expanding benefits and enrollment for governmental employee health insurance, some news on TX teacher PERKS (http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/headline/metro/5802790.html)
For the rest of us, we're being told that we're empowered as employer-sponsored health insurance wastes away to death. Then, we're told that we have the new opportunity to go it alone.
As consumers we can take the baby step of demanding that our governmental employees share the experience of the rest of citizenry. Whether it is federal employee health insurance options, state employee health insurance options, or municipality employee health insurance options, as the discrepancy between governmental employee health options and those options left to the rest of us widens, it's really past time for citizens to ask their representatives to PUT THEIR MONEY WHERE THEIR MOUTHS ARE and to either open their health insurance options up to citizens or close down those options.
Phasing out employer sponsored health care is good? Why don't our governmental employees see this happening for themselves?
It's not hard, write your representative and ask them to do away with their own options or to make those options available to the people who keep them employed, the taxpayers.
