Hepatitis and Doctor who is still practicing: Medical Board Obligations

The NY Medical Board website lists doctors for disciplinary actions. As an example of our approach to doctors, is the case of anesthesiologist, Harvey Finkelstein. To read about this MD who has made many settlements after infecting patients with Hepatitis, and who is still practicing medicine, highlights some of the issues with doctors.

Patients were infected over a many years experience, yet when you look at the NY Medical Board website Dr. Finkelstein's "mistakes" are listed as "non-disciplinary in nature." Not enough information for consumers is it? Still practicing medicine?

In this day and age, it is long past time for protecting individuals whether they are government employees, customer service representatives who give their first name only, or doctors. These people who have access to and injure more people arguably than the punk on the street receive the protection of the media...a media like NY Newsday that posts photographs of people arrested for drunk driving or scuffling in public.

I bet Dr. Finkelstein's patients would have preferred some information on him. Maybe the real lawsuits should be against Medical Boards that issue vague and unclear information about physicians such as Dr. Finkelstein that leave consumers with no clear understanding of the nature of what they did and why on earth they are still practicing medicine.
