Health Insurance News: Piecemeal legislation does not work

While everyone loves legislation intended to benefit "children", Congress MUST stop piecemeal legislation that tries to put bandaids on individual problems without a systemic reform.

Keep it Simple Today: Discourage piecemeal solutions that address the problems of a single group even if they are children because the negative effects on children from familial poverty, bankruptcy, parental illness and death are also pretty well documented and arguably are a more realistic risk of our current system than the consequences of individual children being uninsured.

An honest inventory that does not look to manipulate citizens with one of the "children" arguments must consider the impoverished life of children whose families are strained, bankrupted or unable to afford medical services when they are sick. Piecemeal legislation often makes matters worse because then we are stuck with ill thought legislation such as bailout legislation that throws money at a problem without any significant possibility for long term progress because the details of the legislation provide loopholes for dollar recipients to continue to do what they've been doing which hasn't worked.
