It's a disgrace that the public option, the strongest reason that we can create outside of legislating insurance company charges, is being tossed away as President Obama tries to appease the anti-public option health gurus and interest groups. Sure, he'll boast that he passed health care reform, but sadly, we'll be in a worse situation than we are now. President Obama's appeasement will leave the country poorer, the insurance companies richer and will create an expanded government ready to handle new Medicaid recipients and COBRA recipients.
He had a moment in time with an opportunity to make real positive change for the country, but a reluctance to fight it out, an inability to explain it out and an unwillingness to simplify proposals with a simple we'll add this but we'll cut this wasteful government spending to cover the costs has left Americans with only one likelihood: Investing in insurance companies is a good thing.
Change like this we didn't need.
