In a post entitled “2014 in 214 words,” the site healthcare.gov hopes to further sell Obamacare. Inviting users to respond using 14 words or less. Here are my responses in 14 words or less for each statement put forth: My comments are in italics.
First, I’d like to make some suggestions to move us beyond the repetitive half-truths.
The site states that children under 26 can stay on their parents’ health plan.
Thanks Mr. President for leaving young people unemployed and raising their parents’ financial obligations.
The second statement advises that the new health insurance marketplace can be used to buy private insurance.
Nobody still believes that Obamacare was anti-capitalist, naturally the exchange offers only private plans.
The third statement tells you that pre-existing conditions, 10 essential health benefits, and preventive services are covered.
Qualified plans must cover pre-existing conditions and essential benefits, but costs could bankrupt you.
Fourth, we’re told that help is available depending on family size and income in paying for premiums and out-of-pocket costs.
IF you’re eligible to register on the exchange and buy a silver-plan or better.
Fifth, we’re told, Medicaid and CHIP is still available for poor families and some states expanded Medicaid.
States that opted out of expanded Medicaid reward poor parents, penalizing poor, non-parent adults.
If you don’t have insurance you’ll be charged a fee.
Meaning, this is the tax imposed by Obamacare if you don’t have insurance coverage.
Seventh, you can “explore” insurance options if you’ve been offered employer insurance but you may not get lower rates.
Choose employer offered insurance, though Obamacare imposes no limits on charges for your dependents.
Eighth, Medicare is not part of the marketplace.
True.
Ninth, marketplace open enrollment is 10/2013 through 3/31/14.
Meaning, if you are ineligible for the marketplace open enrollment likely ends much earlier.
