The Week, 10/19/13

This week in Obamacare the debt ceiling negotiations became tied up with Republican hopes of defunding Obamacare. By week’s end an agreement was reached by politicians along with a resurrection of the original start-date for income verification provisions for individuals seeking credits and rebates under Obamacare.

In, “Obamacare Entitlement: Income Verification,” I discussed the federally provided credits and rebates making certain Americans eligible for a new entitlement in the form of contributions from the federal government for their insurance premium benefits.

In, “Politics and Healthcare: Big Business,” I underscored the importance of government in the direction of healthcare by providing information about how much money each of the stakeholders spends on lobbying the government for favorable actions for its own industry including insurance companies, doctors and pharmaceutical companies.

The remainder of the week’s news focused on the malfunctions in the healthcare.gov site. For Obamacare supporters, the difficulties in the technology are being characterized as “glitches,” and Republicans are calling for Secretary Sebelius’ resignation.
