After the fact confessor Scott McClellan is reaping big publicity and expectations for his book telling the American people what we already knew...Bush's march into Iraq was a mistake and like all government mistakes it costs human lives, it's expensive, and it is endless because governments don't undo, they tweak. For purposes here, however, and looking forward, why are we still buying that universal health care is NOT the answer to our health care crisis?
It's because successful marketing plays into US citizen self-identity of any particular time. In this time, citizens showed their priorities and elected George Bush hoping he reflected what we thought was best at the time from his pro-military, tough talking patriotism, to his rolled up sleeve phony Texas accented town hall meetings (NO, the man is NOT from Texas), to his military family background (omitting their oil ties with the Saudis), to his soft-spoken wife (good she knew her place) to his invocation of G-d almighty in everything he said (those darn atheists are a threat) and let's not forget the economy...because George Bush really worried about you when he promoted the Medicare Reform and Modernization Act of 2003. Because George Bush was worried about your Constitutional Rights when he forwarded the Patriot Act into our society (as he preserved his privacy through national security).
Well, here we are and Scott McClellan is just the latest in Bush-men to soothe his wallet and his conscience through a mild attempt at saying whoops, it was all a scam, YEA America.
Well, where's the expose from insiders about the changes in policy and the deal-making with health services providers and health insurers that is dictating our policy today? Why are we still being sold? It's really not complicated: If you support universal health care including universal health insurance coverage you are the enemy. You communist, you socialist, you godless freakin' ANTI-capitalist.
Every argument against Universal health care coverage is this argument...every one. Don't think so? Examine it.
1) Do you really want the government running health insurance? We believe in the rights of the states to govern themselves. (YOU AREN'T AGAINST STATES RIGHTS, ARE YOU? plug in answer above.)
2) You are empowered to shop around for your own health insurance, why should you pay higher premium dollars for someone else's bad habits, bad health or bad genes? (Uh, we might ask why we should pay for someone else's war, someone else's protection (when was the last time the secret service escorted you through a bad area), someone else's entertainment (I really don't want to ENTERTAIN leadership from countries who seek my destruction through food and drink and travel)). Why should I care about my fellow US citizens and even consider that we're all in it together, that would make me....(fill in answer above).
3) We will go bankrupt if we pay for Medicare benefits, something must be done. Government has taken all of our contributions for our entire work lives and OOPS, they spent it on (see number 2 above) and by the way government employee health plans are EXPANDING while ours are being reduced. So, how can we expect a governmental solution, after all, look how incompetent the government has been up until now (and by the way we can't reduce our Iraq war expenses because...)? Stop looking at the government for answers (plug in answer above).
4) Hey, we'll give you a tax break and you can pocket up to almost $6,000 a year tax free if you'll just forfeit your right to expect health insurance companies to honor their contracts and help cover needed medical services...(and that $6,000 is gonna be great until you get sick and then how long will it last?). Everybody loves tax free because everybody hates taxes, right? (We'll make up those tax dollars by getting rid of some medicare coverage for those old folks, don't worry). What, are you pro-tax used for the benefit of our society? (Plug in answer above).
5) We are humane, we will never turn away illegal aliens from their opportunity to get medical care (but doctors have to let us know in advance that under reduced payments from the Medicare Modernization Act of 2003 they will HAVE TO REJECT medicare patients), what, you're against felony entry into the US? This country was built on felons...I mean immigrants (plug in answer above).
6) Health insurance companies are your friends, they are the symbols of corporate power and responsibility, their profits reflect your support of their privileged status based on years of lobbying and clever underwriting, they want you to be healthy and therefore instead of cancer treatments, they are willing, no they INSIST that you have your annual $200.00 exam and they'll pay a third party to call you and make sure that you're following up on vitamins and diets...they care and when they tell you that they cannot insure, meaning cover risk, without raising their expenses, though this makes their very purpose irrelevant and no longer necessary, because you are afraid, because you are now powerless and because you are responsible for yourself, you won't hear of actually expecting insurance coverage because that would mean you are anti-big business (plug in answer).
Universal health insurance...it's freakin' anti-American, it's it's communist and you KNOW we'd rather be dead than red, we'd rather you be dead than we be red, we'd rather be stupid than red, we'd rather be selfish than red, we'd rather throw our population under whatever bus is passing by than be red ... so, until the next expose, go it alone off other people's backs...you're not fighting the Iraq war, you're not paying increased health insurance costs, you're not struggling to get treatment, you're not being stigmatized because you eat a bagel...EVERY DAY, you're not the parent of a sick child, you're not part of the problem according to the capitalists, not YET.
