Harry Reid: Neither helping nor hurting

There is nothing that Harry Reid can do to make matters worse for Democrats who voted for change that President Obama has not himself done because of his unwillingness to use any significant language mandating changes that will improve the lot of the US citizen with among the worst health care options, costs and chances of survival among industrialized nations.

President Obama has shown such discomfort with conflict that he is unable to stand up for the pubic option for health care. And so now we have murkier waters being created by suggestions of triggering events, triggering scenarios where the public option would kick in if so and such happened.

The public option is designed to keep insurance companies in check. For those so ridiculously committed to the idea that their own lack of involvement with the "government" means that insurance companies haven't been lobbying, campaigning, contributing and manipulating legislation for years to maximize their profits, there's really no hope of persuasion.

For the rest of us, the public option is mandatory. Now hammer out some details and get moving and stop creating complication to avoid conflict. Ridiculous.
