OK Republicans, it’s time to show what you’ve learned from the election. As President Obama veers off a cliff with his defense of the Benghazi episode, which pretty much everyone acknowledges was at best an error, Republicans have a two-pronged opportunity to reestablish a notion of reasonableness associated with their party. The first is, stick to the facts with Benghazi, hyperbole and complex conspiracy theories are not only going to undercut valid criticism, but will invite criticism of, “There go those Republicans again…”
The second opportunity is facing up to the fact that they dropped the ball when it came to meeting the November 16, deadline under the PPACA that requires states to notify the Federal government about their intentions regarding who will run the health care exchanges in their states that by law must be available beginning in 2014.
OK, the Supreme Court challenge failed. OK, Mitt Romney didn’t win. But today I saw an inkling of new efforts to challenge or avoid the law being considered by some Republicans (cite unnecessary, since I’m hoping this won’t be the case).
There are plenty of states that have not communicated their intentions yet, many of them blue so that merely being caught unready is not terrible in of itself. However, do it now is the only legitimate response. Make your intentions known. As of now there’s room to change your mind after you do make your intentions known. Comply with Federal law. November 16th is almost here.
