The political class is angry with Donald Trump because he brings attention to the way our government class has manipulated and compromised American values to achieve downright anti-American law, especially in recent years. Below consider how Mr. Trump’s proposal to temporarily ban Muslim immigration is entirely consistent with the Obama Administration’s America under Obamacare and why it’s driving the political class nuts.
Discrimination based on age, sex, religion is not tolerated in the US? Nonsense. Not in a post-Obamacare world. Discrimination is not only tolerated, but promoted under Obamacare.
Obamacare allows people to be charged higher premiums for health insurance on the grounds of two situations only…use of tobacco and age. Is age a protected class? Not under Obamacare.
The logic goes that the old DO cost more than other individuals in medical expenses. Therefore, it’s not discrimination, it’s logical to charge individuals more for health insurance as they age. But how about the known and documented costs of treating alcoholics, drug addicts (non-tobacco), obese, those with pre-existing conditions, women of child-bearing age…All KNOWN categories of individuals who cost more but expressly prohibited from being charged more under Obamacare?
Obamacare affirmatively identifies AGE and tobacco as LAWFUL GROUNDS FOR CHARGING PEOPLE HIGHER PREMIUMS.
Section 2704 of the Affordable Care Act: Prohibition of Preexisting Exclusions or Other Discrimination Based on Health Status: …Except AGE and TOBACCO USE. OK, so substitute in the word MUSLIM…No discrimination EXCEPT Muslim. Not such a big leap after we give up AGE discrimination under Federal law.
How about discrimination based on GENDER? Obamacare has no problem with that either.
Males are penalized based on their GENDER, supposedly another PROTECTED CLASS under our discrimination laws. Men are denied the same coverage that not only are women given for free but that males are required to pay for for women because under Obamacare we all pay for plans that must provide free care. Contraception is one of those women-only, everyone pays areas.
The cost of female sterilization, tubal ligation is estimated to cost between $1,500 to about $7,000 in the US and MUST be covered and paid for by every insurance policy that is acceptable under Obamacare (https://www.healthcare.gov/coverage/birth-control-benefits/). Compare that to a vasectomy which costs a fraction of the price (about $1,000) yet is NOT covered by Obamacare as a free preventive contraceptive procedure, “Plans aren’t required to cover drugs to induce abortions and services for male reproductive capacity, like vasectomies,” (Healthcare.gov).
Let’s use the language of healthcare.gov and substitute in Muslim… “The US immigration laws aren’t required to apply to Muslims.” No reason to suddenly get upset when liberals not only have given the thumbs up to this gender discrimination against US males in our healthcare law but are the authors of it, it’s just another case of selective discrimination.
Ah, but the political class will argue that it makes no sense to merely suspend ONE group of immigrants even in the face of our highly inadequate immigration policy and enforcement in the US. But, in a post-Obamacare world, we US citizens don’t think of it as a TEMPORARY BAN, as Mr. Trump describes it but instead we use the term TRANSITIONAL RELIEF, a term we got from Obama’s Obamacare world.
The political class are no strangers to piecemeal enforcement of laws in the face of governmental challenges to actually fairly implementing their own laws. Take the Affordable Care Act’s employer mandate and its delay that allowed Americans getting government money to avoid employer verification requirements under Affordable Care that led to at least hundreds of thousands getting benefits they wouldn’t have been eligible for if the law had been enforced properly.
While paying out this money, the government SUSPENDED the employer mandate (including employment verification) by calling the delay and non-enforcement as TRANSITIONAL RELIEF, until the government and employers could get their acts together to implement the law’s provisions.
Remember the Employer mandate of the Affordable Care Act that required employer verification that people applying for federal money were in fact eligible? Well, look up the government class, particularly the IRS response to the TEMPORARY BAN on enforcing that provision of the law using the language of “TRANSITIONAL RELIEF,” (https://www.federalregister.gov/articles/2014/02/12/2014-03082/shared-responsibility-for-employers-regarding-health-coverage).
Mr. Trump recommends a temporary ban on Muslim immigration “…until our country's representatives can figure out what is going on.” TEMPORARY. A TEMPORARY BAN is merely TRANSITIONAL RELIEF until the system can actually administer the law that applies regarding immigration.
So, substitute in the federal language for Affordable Care, “A ban on Muslim immigration in order to provide TRANSITIONAL RELIEF until our country’s representatives can figure out what’s going on.” If it’s good enough for the federal government, why not Donald Trump?
Oh, and those claims that it’s not true that Muslims commit more terrorist acts so why punish them…Since when did the political class rely on facts?
Neither Republicans nor Democrats have problems with discriminatory language…Consider the ideas for gun law modifications regarding tougher background checks focusing on mental illness proposed and accepted by Democrats and Republicans alike EVEN THOUGH THERE IS NO EVIDENCE that the mentally ill are responsible for more gun violence than anyone else. (Consider, “Blaming Gun Violence on the Mentally Ill is Easy But Ignorant,” by Jason Powers, Huffington Post, 10/08/2015.)
Now substitute in “Muslim” …tougher background checks focusing on whether a person is Muslim before allowing entry into the US…Well, following liberal reasoning above for gun control proposals, this should make Donald Trump the liberal darling.
The political class is trying to protect itself by working hard to get rid of Donald Trump, both parties, all enmeshed and supportive of a system that has done more to promote itself at the expense of citizens in recent years. Why do they hate Trump? Because love him or hate him, he’s a wake-up call. The government class is supposed to work for Americans not themselves.
