I believe that the gun control proposal laid out by the President is a reminder of how we got Obamacare. Ultimately it's another infrastructure play (including the promise of keep your guns if you like them) that attempts to gain popularity using a populist justification (limiting access to firearms for those with mental illness) in order to expand national authority over guns through expanded reporting to the federal government (mental health provider informants) which with additional budgeting also outlined will use updated technology and new staffing with government employees to create a government infrastructure that will make gun control like Obamacare "here to stay."
